How to install Windows Media Center in Windows 10

Windows Media Center was first introduced as a special edition of Windows XP back in 2002 and was named Windows XP Media Center Edition. Since then, it has been part of every version of the Windows operating system.

However, even in previous versions of Windows, Windows Media Center was not available in all editions. In fact, the Media Center was not part of the Windows 8 system, Microsoft offered users to purchase and install Media Center for a small fee.

Media Center is not officially available for Windows 10 and is not supported. That is, users who previously had Windows 7 + WMC will not be able to enjoy Windows Media Center in Windows 10.

Although WMC has not become very popular (perhaps because it was not available in all editions), there are many users who still use the program more often than any other third-party media centers. A good feature set, device compatibility, and an easy-to-navigate UI have made the program very popular with some PC users.

Of course, there are a couple of good alternatives for Windows Media Center, but everyone knows that none of them is even remotely like Windows Media Center when it comes to ease of use.

Windows Media Center will never die. This has become our leitmotif. Windows Media Center without any problems goes into the new version and the update “October update” Windows10 1809 is no exception.

If you have wanted this for a long time, here’s how to install Windows Media Center on Windows 10.
In order to successfully install and run Windows Media Center on a computer with Windows 10, you need to follow the instructions below. And before you go to the download page, please manually create a system restore point, and you can easily return to the current settings.

Step 1: Open the link to download the latest version of Windows Media Center (or this link)

Or use the previous version of Windows Media Center

Step 2: Download and unzip the archive. You will receive a folder with several files.
Step 3: Now in the root directory of the C:\ drive, create a Wmc folder and copy into it the contents of the folder from the previously unpacked archive.
Step 4: Right-click on the _TestRights file and select the “Run as administrator” command. Click “Yes” when the User Account Control dialog box appears.

After running this file, a command prompt window will open. If the command window closes and a new window starts, proceed to step 4. If the new window does not open, please restart the computer and then repeat this step again.

Step 5: Right click on the _Installer file (CMD file) and run as administrator. Click Yes to begin the installation of Windows Media Center for Windows 10.

Step 6: After installation, open the “Start” → “All Programs” menu, find the “Windows Media Center” icon and launch the program.
